APPLETON - St. Norbert College saw its season come to an end with a heartbreaking 5-4 loss to Lawrence University in the Midwest Conference Tournament at Whiting Field.

The Green Knights (20-15) carried a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning until an error and double set the stage for a walk-off three-run home run to center field by the Vikings' Cathy Kaye with nobody out.

Lawrence took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and held the edge until St. Norbert tied it at 1-1 on a Samantha Gross home run in the fourth inning. The Green Knights pushed ahead 3-1 with two runs in the top of the fifth when Jordan Barbeau scored on a wild pitch and JoAnna Ruppa's RBI single scored MacKenzie Hazen.

The Vikings answered with one run in the fifth, but the Green Knights got one back in the seventh on an RBI double by Hazen.

St. Norbert was held to five hits, with Hazen going 2-for-3. Lawrence ace Shannon Murray earned the win, allowing five hits, two earned runs and no walks with two strikeouts. Morgan Rusch took the loss, allowing seven hits with three earned runs, one walk and no strikeouts.

Cornell College went on to win its first MWC softball title with a 9-0 win over Lawrence in the championship game.
