LA CROSSE - St. Norbert College freshman Brad Boockmeier sits in seventh place after the first day of the decathlon at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship at UW-La Crosse's Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Boockmeier compiled a total of 3,483 points heading into the final five events of tomorrow. Central College's Eric Larson is the first-day leader with 3,744 points.

Boockmeier won the shot put with a heave of 45 feet 1 inch for 712 points. He also picked up 799 points by running 11.28 seconds in the 100-meter dash. He also had 673 points in the 400-meter run (53.20 seconds), 653 points in the high jump (6-0) and 646 points in the long jump (20-7).

Sophomore Dan Sisler suffered a hamstring injury running the first event, the 100-meter dash, and hopped on one leg for the final 60 meters of the race to receive one of the largest ovations of the day from the crowd at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Sisler was subsequently scratched from the remainder of the decathlon.

The decathlon continues at 2 p.m. Friday.
