Goals Flow Forth for St. Norbert in Win Over Lakeland

DE PERE - St. Norbert College had a successful 2013 home opener with a 7-0 route of Lakeland College in a non-conference game at Schneider Stadium.

The Green Knights (1-1-1) wasted little time in taking control of the game, with Katie Vanden Avond scoring 59 seconds into the match on an easy tap-in from the doorstep. Vanden Avond scored the next two goals to record a natural hat trick, scoring again at 10:09 and on a breakaway at 20:36 for a 3-0 lead.

Vanden Avond finished with a nine-point game, assisting on three of St. Norbert's final four goals.

Kaitlin Schmitz, who ended the game with four points, put St. Norbert ahead 4-0 at 21:08, and Shannon Jung scored unassisted at 25:27 for a 5-0 halftime lead.

Kellan Zimmer scored the Green Knights' two second-half goals, scoring at 54:31 and 57:06. Zimmer had an assist to finish with a five-point game.

St. Norbert outshot Lakeland 25-2. Sarah Platzer did not make a save in minding the net during the first half, while Maddie Plinska made two saves in the second half. Jessica Carter made 10 saves for Lakeland.
