St. Norbert Wins Ninth Straight After Defeating Monmouth

MONMOUTH, Ill. - St. Norbert College won for the ninth consecutive time after an 81-58 win over Monmouth College in a Midwest Conference game at Glennie Gym.

The Green Knights (11-1, 7-0 MWC) built an 18-point halftime lead to cruise to the win. Monmouth dropped to 5-8, 4-4.

St. Norbert held an 18-13 lead with 11:01 left in the first half before going on a 15-3 run over the next five minutes. Garrett Thorn hit a short jumper, followed by a Kam Cerroni 3-pointer to gain a 23-13 lead. Following a Monmouth 3, Andy Fox hit a jumper to push the lead back to nine at 25-19. Brandon Gries hit four free throws, Steven Hofacker one and Austin Elliott canned a jumper to spark the run.

Fox hit a 3-pointer with two seconds left in the half gave St. Norbert a 45-27 lead at intermission.

The Green Knights held a 49-31 lead at the 15:49 mark of the second half before putting the game away with an 8-0 run. Andrew Schwoerer had a conventional three-point play, Elliott hit a jumper and Fox canned another 3-pointer for a 57-31 lead with 13:17 to go.

Cerroni led St. Norbert with 17 points. Elliott had 13 points, Schowerer 12 and Fox and Gries finished with 11 points apiece. The Green Knights shot 47.2 percent from the field, making 25 of 53 field-goal attempts.

Cole Jackson led Monmouth with 12 points, while Ben Friday and Brandon Harroun added 10 points each. The Scots shot 42.9 percent (21-or-49) from the floor.
