Green Knights Open Season With Win Over Knox

GREEN BAY - The St. Norbert College women's tennis team got their 2008 season off to a successful start with a 6-3 non-conference win over Knox College at the Four Seasons Tennis Club.

The Green Knights claimed four singles wins and picked up a pair of doubles victories to post the triumph.

Freshman Kelly Van Handel won her first collegiate match by posting an impressive win at No. 1 singles by a 6-1, 6-4 score over Megan Funk. Lauren Post added a 6-1, 6-3 win over Jordan Kuban at No. 2 singles.

Allyson Yankle turned in a win at No. 3 singles, blanking Molly Stein 6-0, 6-0. Anna Reardon also won her first collegiate match by beating Katie Beadling 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.

Lauren Lathers lost a tough match at No. 5 singles to Alex Hagen, falling 4-6, 6-4, 16-14. Knox's Rachel Clark beat Claire Kraemer at No. 6 singles 6-3, 6-4.

Van Handel and Post won convincingly at No. 1 doubles, beating Fink and Kuban 8-2. Callie Schroeder and Stephanie Marek beat Clark and Stein 8-2 at No. 3 doubles for the other St. Norbert victory.
