DE PERE - St. Norbert College had to settle for a split in a crucial Northern Collegiate Hockey Association series when it dropped a 4-1 decision to Adrian College at Cornerstone Community Center.

The Green Knights (17-3-1, 12-2 NCHA), ranked No. 2 in the USCHO.com Division III and D3hockey.com polls, fell back into a first-place tie with the No. 1-ranked Bulldogs (17-1-3, 11-1-2) with 24 points.

St. Norbert outshot Adrian 11-2 in the opening period and held a 1-0 lead after the first 20 minutes. Brandon Hoogenboom scored his fifth goal of the season off assists from Chris Rial and Pijus Rulevicius at 2:01 of the period.

Adrian answered with a four-goal second period. The Bulldogs drew even on a goal by Brett Pinkerton at 1:50, followed by a Ryan Lowe marker at 4:51. Josh Cousineau added a goal at 11:50, and Duston Hebebrand made it 4-1 with a power-play goal at 14:25.

St. Norbert had three power-play opportunities late in the second period but couldn't convert. The Green Knights, who were 5-for-6 on the power play in Friday's 11-1 win, went 0-for-7 with the man advantage on Saturday. Adrian was 1-for-4 on the power play.

St. Norbert outshot Adrian 36-17. Scott Shackell made 35 saves for the Bulldogs, while David Jacobson made 13 saves for the Green Knights.
