Green Knights Win Aurora Tournament

AURORA, Ill. - The St. Norbert College women's volleyball team won an invitational tournament for the second time in as many weeks, going 4-0 at the Aurora University Invitational.

The Green Knights pulled out three five-set wins in the tournament, including a pair of triumphs over College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin schools.

St. Norbert beat North Park University 25-19, 24-26, 18-25, 25-21, 15-11 in the opener. St. Norbert had 12 kills apiece from Joanna Mamayek and Sam Jungbluth. Sarah Sulentic had 10 kills and 16 blocks, while Amy Perszyk added 42 assists and 23 digs.

The Green Knights then defeated Aurora University 23-25, 25-16, 25-17, 22-25, 15-8. Mamayek, Jungbluth and Katie Casebolt all had nine kills each. Danielle DeGroot had 17 kills, while Jungbluth and Sulentic each had eight blocks.

St. Norbert rallied from a 2-0 deficit to tip North Central College 16-25, 21-25, 25-15, 25-17, 15-7. Mamayek hit .432 in the match, connecting on 21 kills in 44 attempts with just two errors. Jungbluth had 12 kills, with Sulentic adding eight blocks. Laura Ayello had 52 assists and 13 digs, and Casebolt registered a match-high 18 digs.

The Green Knights then finished off the tournament with a 3-0 sweep of Manchester College 25-16, 25-16, 25-21. Mamayek hit .500, with 17 kills and two errors in 30 attempts. Kim Angst had 23 digs, Sulentic eight blocks and Jungbluth 10 kills.

Mamayek was named the tournament's most valuable player, and was the only St. Norbert player named to the all-tournament team.
