Netters Top Carroll in MWC Opener

GREEN BAY - St. Norbert College's women's tennis team opener Midwest Conference North Division action with an 8-1 win over Carroll University at Western Racquet Club.

The Green Knights opened the dual meet with a three-match sweep of doubles actions. Kelly Van Handel and Lauren Post beat Emily Linse and Stacy Hraban 8-0 at No. 1 doubles. Allyson Yankle and Callie Schroeder teamed up to top Casey Anderson and Samantha Bachmann in a tight 9-7 decision at No. 2 doubles. Stephanie Marek and Kaleigh Wenberg beat Sarah Anthony and Erin Mohrbacker 8-1 in the No. 3 doubles tilt.

Van Handel throttled Linse 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 1 singles match. Post won her match at No. 2 singles over Hraban 6-1, 6-3. Yankle needed a grueling third-set tiebreaker to beat Bachmann 3-6, 6-3, 14-12 at No. 3 singles.

Emily McElhaney topped Casey Anderson 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 singles, while Anna Reardon rounded out the Green Knight wins with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Erika Goska.
