St. Norbert Hosts Adrian Saturday in NCAA Tournament Quarterfinal

DE PERE - St. Norbert College earned the top seeding in the West Region of the NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey Tournament for the 12th time in 13 years, and will receive a first-round bye in the 11-team tournament as a result.

St. Norbert (25-3-1) will host a national quarterfinal game at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Cornerstone Community Center. The Green Knights will face Adrian College (22-2-4). The winner of Saturday's quarterfinal will advance to the NCAA Division III Frozen Four on March 21-22 at Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston, Maine.

St. Norbert and Adrian split its two regular-season games with each other this season, both coming at the Cornerstone Community Center. The Green Knights claimed an 11-1 win on Jan. 31, while the Bulldogs bounced back the next day with a 4-1 triumph.

This tournament appearance is St. Norbert's 15th, with the Green Knights also making appearances in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. All first-round and quarterfinal-round games except for 1997 have come at home. The Green Knights are 22-11-1 all-time in the NCAA tournament and won the 2008, 2011 and 2012 national championships.

Adrian is making its fourth NCAA Division III Tournament appearance. The Bulldogs played in the tournament in 2010, 2011 and 2013. Adrian, 2-3 all-time in the tournament, lost to St. Norbert in a first-round NCAA game in 2010 and fell again to the Green Knights in the 2011 national championship game.

First-round matchups on Wednesday Salem State at Norwich, Nichols at Geneseo State and Bowdoin at Oswego State. In Saturday's other quarterfinals, the Salem State/Norwich winner will meet the Nichols/Geneseo State winner, while the Oswego State/Bowdoin winner will travel to Babson. UW-Stevens Point travels to St. Thomas in the other quarterfinal.
