Green Knights Pound Out 18 Hits to Top Oglethorpe

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - St. Norbert College picked up its first win of the season behind an 18-hit barrage to claim a 9-3 win over Oglethorpe University at Lake Myrtle Complex.

The Green Knights (1-3) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning. Spencer Larson and Derek Klegin had RBI singles in the inning, while Chad Ljunggren and Travis Mason drove in runs on infield groundouts.

The Stormy Petrels (9-9) scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to pull within 4-2, but St. Norbert would score at least one run in each of the last four innings to pull away.

Larson drove in a run on an infield groundout in the sixth, and Cameron Jerina drove in a run in similar fashion in the seventh inning. Travis Mason smacked an RBI triple in the eighth, while the Green Knights scored two runs with the help of two Oglethorpe errors in the ninth.

Pierre and Larson both went 4-for-5 at the plate, while Klegin added a 3-for-6 afternoon with three stolen bases. Klegin, Ljunggren and Larson all doubled, while Mason and Pierre tripled. Mason finished 2-for-5 with two RBIs, and Jerina was also 2-for-5.

Matt Freeman picked up the win for St. Norbert, scattering 10 hits in eight innings of work. He walked one and struck out eight. Nate Schadrie worked the ninth for the Green Knights and struck out the side.
