Green Knights Split on Third Day of MWC Classic

EAST PEORIA, Ill. - St. Norbert College split on the third and final day of the Midwest Conference Classic, losing to Lake Forest College 15-2 before routing Grinnell College 23-0 to finish the tournament 3-3.

The Green Knights (10-13, 5-3 MWC) fell behind 5-0 through five innings against the Foresters, who pulled away with four runs in the sixth and six runs in the seventh.

St. Norbert scored twice in the sixth inning, with Codi Jenshak stroking an RBI double and Abby Gildernick registering an RBI single. The Green Knights finished with five hits. Morgan Rusch took the loss, allowing 12 hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Against Grinnell, St. Norbert scored in every inning. The Green Knights, who had 19 hits, scored five runs in the first inning on three hits. St. Norbert added six runs on seven hits in the second inning, with Jessica DeMeuse hitting a two-run single and Emily Laufer collecting a two-run double.

St. Norbert scored four times in the third with Amy McBride's two-run single being the big blow. The Green Knights added seven runs in the fifth inning on three hits and three Grinnell errors. DeMeuse had a two-run single in the inning.

Jenshak was 4-for-4 with five runs scored and two RBIs. DeMeuse was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and five RBIs. Laufer was 2-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBIs. MacKenzie Hazen was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. JoAnna Ruppa was 2-for-4 with four runs scored.

Brianna Byrne twirled a 1-hit shutout, walking two and striking out four.
