Green Knights Move to 12-0; Best Start in School History

RIPON - The St. Norbert College women's volleyball team won their third invitational tournament on the young 2008 season with a 4-0 record at the Ripon College Invitational.

The Green Knights won a pair of matches on the second day to improve to 12-0 on the season, the best start in the 34-year history of the program. St. Norbert beat UW-River Falls 25-8, 25-13 and 25-14 and then tipped Carroll University 35-33, 25-20 and 25-3.

St. Norbert hit .290 against River Falls, with Joanna Mamayek leading the way with 14 kills and two errors on 30 attempts for a .400 hitting percentage. Mamayek, who was named to the all-tournament team, also had eight blocks. Laura Ayello had 24 assists. The Green Knights were strong defensively against the Falcons, posting 62 digs. Kim Angst had 14 digs, Sam Jungbluth 13 and Katie Casebolt 12.

The Green Knights won a tight first set against Carroll before handily winning the third set in a 25-3 runaway. Mamayek had 12 kills with two errors on 24 attempts. Ayello posted 26 assists, Danielle DeGroot seven digs and Sarah Sulentic four blocks.
