LAKE FOREST, Ill. - St. Norbert College finished in second place at the Midwest Conference Tournament after splitting a pair of games on the final day of the affair at Lake Forest College's Nick Wasylik Field. The Green Knights opened the day with a 3-1 win over Monmouth College before dropping the championship game to the Foresters 3-0.

The Green Knights, who finished their season 18-17, would have had to beat Lake Forest twice to win the league championship.

St. Norbert survived a 13-hit onslaught by Monmouth, but the Green Knights survived and advanced thanks to 14 runners left on base by the Scots. St. Norbert scored a single run in each of the first three innings to build a 3-0 lead.

Codi Jenshak hit a solo home run with two outs in the top of the first inning for the first run. JoAnna Ruppa's groundout drove in a run in the second inning, and Abby Gildernick's RBI single in the third inning resulted in the Green Knights' last run.

Monmouth scored its run in the bottom of the seventh and had the bases loaded with two outs, but couldn't draw closer.

Rusch went the distance to earn the win, scattering 13 hits while walking one and striking out one. The Green Knights, who had five hits, did not have anyone with a multi-hit game.

Lake Forest took the lead in the nightcap with two runs on three hits in the top of the third inning. The Foresters added an insurance run on a solo home run by Kayla Borgra. St. Norbert brought the potential tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh, but couldn't extend the inning.

Lake Forest's Jessi Werner threw a two-hit shutout with two walks and 10 strikeouts. Brianna Byrne took the loss, allowing seven hits and three runs in four-plus innings. Tayler Long and JoAnna Ruppa had St. Norbert's only hits.
