St. Norbert Places Third at MWC Championship

ROCKFORD, Ill. - St. Norbert College couldn't hold on to a second-round lead and finished third at the Midwest Conference Championship at Aldeen Golf Club.

The Green Knights, the 2013 MWC champion, held a one-stroke lead on Carroll University and a two-stroke edge on Monmouth College after the first 36 holes of the 54-hole tournament. Monmouth charged to the conference title on the final day with a 315, going 324-214-315--953 to win the tournament. Carroll was second with a 318-319-325--962. St. Norbert placed third with a 324-312-333--969.

St. Norbert had three all-conference performers. Brandon Gries earned his second All-MWC honor in golf and fifth overall (including three in men's basketball) by finishing ninth overall. Gries carded an 81-78-83--242 to lead the Green Knights.

Alex Okray and Nic Vrubley both finished in a tie for tenth to also record All-MWC accolades. Okray shot a 75-82-87--244, while Vrubley - the 2013 MWC individual champion - scored 85-75-84--244.

Tony Arnold placed in a tie for 17th with an 84-86-82--252. Jacob Hebbard was 20th with an 84-86-84--254, while Nick Mueller was tied for 21st with an 88-77-90--255.

Knox College's James Fenner was the conference individual champion with a 78-75-75--228, four strokes ahead of runner-up Henry Mulvey of Carroll.
