APPLETON - The St. Norbert College women's tennis team lost a hard-fought 5-4 decision to Lawrence University in a Midwest Conference North Division dual at the Lawrence Courts.

Lawrence, which defeated defending conference champion Grinnell 5-4 earlier this season, is now 9-3 overall and 2-0 in the MWC North. St. Norbert is 3-3 and 1-1, respectively.

The team decision came down to the final match to conclude - a three-set marathon at No. 6 singles between St. Norbert's Anna Reardon and Lawrence's Emma Kent. Reardon claimed the first set 6-1 before Kent battled back to win the second set 7-6 with a 7-5 tiebreaker. Kent then clinched the match and the team victory.

Lawrence won two of three doubles matches to stake an early lead. St. Norbert's Lauren Post and Kelly Van Handel won the No. 1 doubles match over Elizabeth Larson and Lisa Ritland 8-6. Lawrence won the other two doubles matches both by 8-5 scores.

St. Norbert's three singles wins came at Nos. 2, 3 and 4. Post defeated Lawrence's Hanah McCarthy handily in the No. 2 spot 6-3, 6-1. Allyson Yankle won at No. 3 singles over Ritland 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Callie Schroeder finished up at No. 4 singles with a 7-5, 6-2 triumph over Emily Dalton.
