Green Knights Lock Down Monmouth

DE PERE - St. Norbert College held Monmouth College just 30.4 percent shooting from the floor and rolled to a 75-47 Midwest Conference win at Schuldes Sports Center.

The Green Knights (3-0, 1-0 MWC) held the Fighting Scots (1-2, 0-1) to just 17-for-56 marksmanship from the field. St. Norbert shot 53.8 percent (28-for-52) from the floor and outrebounded Monmouth 38-25.

St. Norbert held a 29-22 lead with 5:55 left in the first half before going on a decisive 12-2 run to finish out the period. Andrew Schwoerer, Steven Hofacker and Bryan Dalton scored baskets for a 35-24 lead, and Dalton followed with another jumper. Hofacker then canned another basket and Schwoerer made a pair of free throws with 3 seconds left to give the Green Knights a 41-24 lead at intermission.

Hofacker made a couple of free throws for the first points of the second half, and Monmouth would get no closer than 19 points the rest of the way. St. Norbert held a 30-point bulge with 3:12 left for its biggest lad of the game.

Austin Elliott led St. Norbert with 19 points, while Hofacker added 18 points and seven rebounds. Schwoerer had 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Dalton totaled seven points and seven rebounds.

Andrew Mathison came off the bench to lead Monmouth with 17 points, while Will Jones added 12 points for the Scots, who had just seven turnovers.
