St. Norbert Grinds Past Fighting Scots

DE PERE - St. Norbert College turned in a stellar defensive effort to turn away Monmouth College 73-41 in a Midwest Conference game on Connie Tilley Court at Schuldes Sports Center.

The Green Knights (4-0, 2-0 MWC) held Monmouth (1-2, 0-1) to 22.2 percent field-goal shooting, with the Scots making just 10 of 45 attempts from the floor.

Brianna Byrne snapped an 8-8 tie with a 3-pointer with 11:58 left in the first half, and St. Norbert would retain the lead the remainder of the game. Following a pair of Monmouth free throws, the Green Knights would go on a 9-0 run to take a 20-10 advantage, finished on a Stephanie Weigman 3-pointer with 7:41 left.

Monmouth cut the deficit to 20-13 but St. Norbert would finish the first half on a 17-2 run over the last 6:37 to take a 37-15 lead at halftime.

The Scots' Katie Houston connected on a 3-pointer to open the second half, but St. Norbert went on a 10-0 run for a 47-18 lead with 15:11 remaining to take the mystery out of the outcome.

Tasha Giese led St. Norbert with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Byrne added 13 points. Mallory Nickerson came off the bench to add 10 points and seven rebounds. The Green Knights shot 40.0 percent (24-for-60) from the floor and outrebounded Monmouth 46-36.

Paige Nord led Monmouth with 13 points, while Houston added 10 points.
