Green Knights Can't Overcome Slow Start Against Pointers

STEVENS POINT - St. Norbert College fell into a 17-2 hole to start the game and simply couldn't recover as the Green Knights lost 71-59 to UW-Stevens Point in a non-conference game at Berg Gym.

The Green Knights (7-2), ranked No. 22 in the D3hoops.com Top 25, scored on a Heidi Van Sistine jumper just 14 seconds into the game, but the Pointers (6-4) reeled off 17 straight points in the next five minutes to take control.

Stevens Point, which would shoot 62.5 percent (15-for-24) in the first half, scored on eight of its next nine possessions to take a 17-2 lead with 14:40 left in the half. St. Norbert would end its scoring drought at the 12:18 mark on a layup by Mallory Nickerson. The Green Knights would get to within 10 three times in the first half but would trail 40-26 at halftime.

St. Norbert couldn't get to within single digits in the second half, cutting the deficit to 10 three different times late.

Brianna Byrne led St. Norbert with 16 points. Van Sistine added 13 points, while Jill Kleiman and Tasha Giese both had 11 points apiece. The Green Knights shot 35.5 percent (22-for-62) from the floor.

Joann Wolfenberg led Stevens Point with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Lexi Roland added 14 points and Kaitlyn Jacobs 12. The Pointers shot 51 percent (25-for-49) overall and outrebounded St. Norbert 42-33.
