St. Norbert Tops Carroll, Extends Win Streak to 17

WAUKESHA - The St. Norbert College women's volleyball team continued their blistering start to the 2008 season with a four-set win over Carroll University.

The Green Knights topped the Pioneers 25-27, 25-16, 25-20, 31-29 to move to 17-0 on the season. St. Norbert also moved past the midway point of the Midwest Conference schedule, now standing at 5-0 with four league matches left to play.

St. Norbert had its consecutive set winning streak snapped at 30 with the loss in Set 1. The Green Knights are now three matches shy of tying the school record for consecutive match wins of 20, set in 1984.

The Green Knights used stellar defense as the impetus behind the victory, registering 96 digs. Katie Casebolt led St. Norbert with 30 digs, followed by Kim Angst's 17. Laura Ayello added 14 digs, Amy Perszyk 13 and Danielle DeGroot 12.

St. Norbert hit .178 as a team for the match, netting 50 kills in 191 attempts against 16 errors. Sam Jungbluth was the only Green Knights in double-digit kills with 13. Joanna Mamayek had nine kills and DeGroot eight. Laura Ayello had 36 assists, while Mamayek added four blocks.

Carroll hit .074 for the match, getting 42 kills in 163 attempts but had 30 hitting errors.
