St. Norbert Opens Quarterfinal Series With Shutout

DE PERE - St. Norbert College opened its Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Harris Cup Playoffs quarterfinal series with a 5-0 win over Lawrence University at the Cornerstone Community Center.

The Green Knights (18-5-2) host the Vikings (7-18-1) at 7 p.m. Saturday in game two of the first-to-three-points series. St. Norbert moved its record to 38-1 all-time against the Vikings with the win.

St. Norbert led 2-0 after a dominant first period that saw it hold a 15-1 shots-on-goal advantage after the first 20 minutes of play. Cullen Bradshaw scored his 11th goal of the season with a power-play marker at the 11:45 mark. Blake Thompson then registered his seventh goal of the year with a power-play score at 16:53.

The Green Knights added to their lead with a couple of second-period goals. Tanner Froese scored at 5:46, while Kyle Lee finished at 12:54. It was Froese's eighth goal and Lee's fourth goal of the season.

Chris Rial's unassisted goal 2:30 into the third period was the game's final goal, and was Rial's sixth overall goal this season.

Michael Hill scored two assists for St. Norbert's lone multi-point game.

St. Norbert outshot Lawrence 50-11. Tony Kujava registered his second consecutive shutout with 11 saves. Mattias Soderqvist made 45 saves for Lawrence.

St. Norbert was 2-for-8 on the power play, while Lawrence was 0-for-6, including a major opportunity in the third period.
