St. Norbert Stays Hot With Win Over Grinnell

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - St. Norbert College improved to 6-1 on the season with an 8-2 triumph over Grinnell College at Chain of Lakes Park. The Green Knights matched their best start to a season since 2008.

In a rematch of last May's Midwest Conference Tournament championship game, the Green Knights scored two runs in each of the first three innings to take a 6-0 lead.

Tyler Brown and Brandon Kozinski had RBI singles in the first inning. Sean Grant gave St. Norbert a 4-0 lead when he stroked a two-run home run in the second inning. Troy Rottier had an RBI triple and Brown a run-scoring single in the third inning.

Neither team would score again until the seventh inning when St. Norbert scored twice on RBI singles by Rottier and Brown. Grinnell (1-5) would get single runs in the eighth and ninth innings.

Jake McMahon allowed five hits in eight innings of work, walking one and striking out five while not allowing an earned run.

Brown was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while Tyler Banovich was 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Rottier was 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Grant and Spencer Larson also scored two runs apiece.
