St. Norbert Swept by Nationally Ranked Pointers

STEVENS POINT - St. Norbert College battled No. 10-ranked UW-Stevens Point but couldn't scratch across enough runs as the Green Knights were swept by the Pointers 7-4 and 3-2 in a non-conference doubleheader at University Field.

The Green Knights (7-7) were tied 3-3 against the Pointers (9-3) in the seventh inning but the host scored one run in the seventh and three runs in the eighth to take control.

St. Norbert scored three runs in the third inning to take a 3-1 lead. Ray McDonald scored on an error, and Tyler Banovich's RBI groundout brought home Sean Grant. Troy Rottier's sacrifice fly to plate Derek Klegin ended the scoring in the frame. Banovich added a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning for St. Norbert's final run.

Brandon Kozinski was 2-for-4 for St. Norbert, which had five hits. Nate Schadrie took the loss in relief, allowing four runs and six hits in 2 2/3 innings.

In the nightcap, Stevens Point scored two runs in the first inning to take the early lead and held on from there. Derek Klegin belted an RBI double in the third inning to cut the deficit to 3-1, but Stevens Point added a run in the seventh inning for a 3-1 lead. Tyler Brown drove in a run with a single in the eighth inning, but the Green Knights couldn't find the equalizer.

Klegin finished 2-for-5 for St. Norbert, which had six hits. Brett Nohr took the loss, allowing one earned run in 7 2/3 innings with no walks and three strikeouts.
