St. Norbert Splits Matches at North Central Tournament

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - St. Norbert College saw its 19-match winning streak to open the 2008 season come to an end but still would up with a 2-2 showing at the Tiffany Robinson Memorial Tournament hosted by North Central College.

The Green Knights opened the tournament with a pair of losses to CCIW foes Elmhurst College and North Central College before rebounding to beat Trinity International University and Robert Morris College-Springfield.

Elmhurst beat St. Norbert 25-21, 25-23, 25-23 in the tournament opener to snap the Green Knights' longest winning streak since winning a school-record 20 in a row in 1984. The Green Knights hit .182 in the match, while Sam Jungbluth had a team-high eight kills. Kim Angst added 14 digs and Laura Ayello 13 assists.

North Central then claimed a hard-fought five-set win over St. Norbert 21-25, 25-21, 27-25, 17-25, 15-11. Jungbluth had 10 kills for the Green Knights, who hit .153 in the match on 190 attempts. Ayello had 37 assists, while Angst had a team-high 27 digs. Joanna Mamayek totaled six kills and 12 blocks.

St. Norbert topped Trinity International 25-11, 25-14, 25-19. The Green Knights were led by Katie Casebolt's 12 kills in 23 attempts with no errors for a .522 percentage. Mamayek added 11 kills in 22 attempts with one error for a .455 percentage. Ayello had 31 assists, while Danielle DeGroot had 16 digs.

The Green Knights hit a blistering .424 (48-6-99) against Robert Morris to win 25-12, 25-17, 25-18. Sarah Sulentic hit .619, slamming 15 kills in 21 attempts against just two errors. Amy Perszyk had 20 assists with DeGroot adding 13 digs.

Casebolt was named to the event's all-tournament team.
