St. Norbert Holds Comfortable Lead at MWC Championship

RIPON - St. Norbert College opened up a lead of 22 points after the first day of the Midwest Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship hosted by Ripon College at Ingalls Field.

The Green Knights, hunting for their first MWC outdoor title since 1991, compiled 71.5 points through seven events completed the first day. Cornell College is second with 49.33 points, while Carroll University is third with 43.5 points.

Brittany Kozlowski led three Green Knights who placed in the top five in the 1,500-meter run. Kozlowski won the event with a time of 4:37.39. Lisa Baeten was fourth with a time of 4:44.66, while Erin Artz was fifth with a time of 4:44.79.

St. Norbert had three of the top six places in the long jump, including conference champion Liz LeCaptain's distance of 17 feet 8 inches. Kyra VandenHeuvel was fourth with a distance of 16-10 1/2, while Brianna Bittner was sixth at 15-11.

Nicole Vanderlin led a triumvirate of Green Knights who finished in the top five in the high jump, finishing second with a height of 5-2 1/2. Samantha Morateck and Ashley Berton finished fourth and fifth, respectively, also finishing at 5-2 1/2.

Mallory Nickerson finished second in the discus, recording a throw of 141-2.

Grace Mickelson placed fourth in the pole vault with a height of 9-8, while Meghan Vandenack finished in a tie for eighth with a height of 7-8 1/2.

Taylor Miller finished fifth in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 40:55.79.
