Green Knights Host Intrasquad Scrimmage Wednesday

DE PERE - The St. Norbert College volleyball team will be hosting their "Green & Black" intrasquad scrimmage at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Schuldes Sports Center. The match will give fans a sneak peek at the 2015 squad, which features eight new members along with nine returning letterwinners.

First-year head coach B.J. Bryant is optimistic about his team's chances heading into their first weekend of competition: "Preseason has been moving along very nicely. The new players are meshing well with the returners and I think our level of play is further along than I would have anticipated," Bryant said.

The Midwest Conference preseason coaches' poll placed SNC in second behind three-time defending champion Cornell. Losing a number of contributing seniors from last year's roster leaves Bryant feeling that expectations may be a bit lofty.

"We have a lot of holes to fill in terms of players scoring points. Last year's seniors accounted for 72 percent of our point total," Bryant said. "We are going to need everyone to step up their games and establish a new identity for this team as we begin the season."

The Green Knights hit the road Friday for a tournament at St. Mary's University in Winona, Minn. This will be the volleyball team's first trip into Minnesota for competition in nearly a decade. UW-La Crosse, Lakeland College, Wisconsin Lutheran College, and Luther College make up the slate of matches for St. Norbert over the weekend.

The first home match is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 25 against Cornell.
