St. Norbert Posts Road Win at Carroll

WAUKESHA - St. Norbert College remained unblemished in the Midwest Conference with a 2-1 win over Carroll University at Schneider Stadium.

The Green Knights (5-3, 2-0 MWC) jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead and held on in the second half for the win despite heavy pressure from Carroll (4-3-1, 1-1).

St. Norbert took the early lead when Katie Vanden Avond converted a penalty kick at the 9 minutes 33 seconds mark. The goal was Vanden Avond's 17th of the season and the 108th of her career, tying her for eighth all-time in NCAA Division III history.

The Green Knights added to their lead with a goal from Morgan Edge at 34:41, her first of the season. Monica Stephans was credited with an assist.

The two-goal advantage would hold up until Carroll's Casey Weyhrich converted a penalty kick at the 82:55 mark.

Carroll outshot St. Norbert 17-7, including 6-1 in the second half. The Pioneers also held a 17-5 edge in corner kicks, including a commanding 12-0 margin in the final 45 minutes.

Maddie Plinska made 10 saves for the Green Knights, while Sabrina Sieger made five stops for the Pioneers.
