St. Norbert Fares Well at MWC Singles/Doubles Championships

The Green Knights totaled 47 points at the event, which was good enough for fourth. Five-time MWC champion Grinnell totaled 81 points for the weekend championship.
The No. 1 doubles tandem of Kelly Van Handel and Lauren Post were the only Green Knights to reach a championship match, winning the flight. Van Handel and Post beat Beloit's Erika Zevin and Hannah Perwin in a three-set marathon, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Van Handel and Post topped Illinois College's Candace Norville and Marian Davidson 6-0, 6-0 in the first round and then beat Monmouth's Cassie Frantz and Brittany Donnelly 6-3, 6-3.
At No. 3 doubles, Anna Reardon and Lauren Lathers fell in the semifinals to Lawrence's Emily Dalton and Emma Kent 6-2, 7-5. In No. 2 double action, Callie Schroeder and Stephanie Marek won the consolation championship with a 10-3 win over Knox's Jordan Kuban and Molly Stein.
St. Norbert had four singles flights reach the semifinals, but all four came up empty in trying to reach a championship match. Post dropped her semifinal at No. 2 to Monmouth's Amy Unzicker 6-3, 6-3. In No. 3 action, Allyson Yankle fell to Lawrence's Lisa Ritland 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. Schroeder dropped her No. 4 semifinal to Donnelly 6-1, 6-0. Reardon lost to Kent at No. 6 by a 6-2, 6-4 score.
Van Handel advanced to the consolation championship match at No. 1 singled but lost to Frantz 10-7.
