Green Knights Win 16th Consecutive Season Opener

FOND DU LAC - St. Norbert College won its season opener for the 16th consecutive season with a 4-1 win over Marian University in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at the Blue Line Family Ice Center.

The Green Knights scored two goals late in the first period to take control. Michael Hill scored at the 17:55 mark, followed by a Chris Rygus goal at 18:59.

Neither team scored in the second period. Marian halved its deficit with a goal by Ben Morgan at the 15:40 mark of the third period. Steven Phillips answered just 78 seconds later to give the Green Knights a 3-1 advantage. Noah Nelson iced the win with an empty-net goal with 49 seconds remaining.

Nelson added an assist on Phillips' goal to give him the Green Knights' only multi-point game.

St. Norbert outshot Marian 32-15. Tony Kujava made 14 saves for the Green Knights, while Mike Baldwin made 28 stops for the Sabres.

Marian was 0-for-3 on the power play, while St. Norbert was 0-for-2.
