Furious Third-Period Rally Lifts St. Norbert Past Aurora

GENEVA, Ill. - St. Norbert College erased a 1-0 deficit after two periods with four third-period goals en route to a 4-1 win over Aurora University in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Fox Valley Ice Arena.

The Green Knights (4-1, 4-1 NCHA), despite outshooting the Spartans 34-9 in the first two periods, saw themselves trailing 1-0 after 40 minutes. But St. Norbert scored two goals in the first nine minutes of the third period to take the lead and pull away down the stretch.

St. Norbert outshot Aurora 16-5 in the first period but neither team could put a puck past the goal line. Aurora (1-3-1, 1-1-1) took a 1-0 lead 8 minutes 11 seconds into the second period when the Spartans' Anthony Pnewski scored a 4-on-4 goal.

The Green Knights wouldn't get the equalizer until the 3:24 mark of the third period, when Steven Phillips scored unassisted. Storm Wahlrab put the Green Knights ahead 2-1 when he scored off assists from Sean Campbell and Phillips at 8:54. Erik Cooper then finished a rush off a pass from Michael Hill at the 15:46 mark for a 3-1 edge. Noah Nelson then converted an empty-net goal at 18:47 with Phillips assisting to close out the scoring.

Phillips finished with a three-point game, the only multi-point game for St. Norbert.

St. Norbert outshot Aurora 54-17, including 20-8 in the third period. The Green Knights were 0-for-8 on the power play, while the Spartans were 0-for-4.

Tony Kujava made 16 saves for the Green Knights, while Jared Rutledge made 50 stops for Aurora.
