MONMOUTH, Ill. - St. Norbert College faced a deficit with 7 minutes remaining but rallied down the stretch to claim a 64-59 win over Monmouth College in the Midwest Conference opener for both teams at Glennie Gym.

The Green Knights (2-1, 1-0 MWC) extended their winning streak against Midwest Conference opponents to 45. St. Norbert and Monmouth (3-1, 0-1) were picked to finish No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in the MWC Pre-Season Coaches' Poll.

Monmouth held a 51-46 lead with 7:35 left following a 3-pointer by Lamont Mitchell. Mitchell missed an and-one free throw that would have put the Scots up five, and St. Norbert's D.J. DeValk immediately countered with a conventional three-point play. The Green Knights forced four consecutive Monmouth turnovers after that point, with St. Norbert taking the lead.

Tim Marshall's hoop with 6:45 to go put St. Norbert ahead 52-51. Marshall followed with another basket to push the Green Knights ahead 4-41 with 5:54 remaining. The Scots went on a mini-run of 5-2 to knot the game at 56-56, but Mitchell Reinthaler's hoop with 3:15 to go put the Green Knights ahead to stay.

DeValk made two free throws at the 2:53 mark, but Monmouth's Andrew Mathison answered 13 seconds later to trim the deficit to 60-58. Neither team would score again until Monmouth's Will Jones split a pair of free throws with 24 seconds left, and Ben Bobinski made all four of his free-throw attempts in the waning moments to seal the win.

St. Norbert jumped out to leads of 11-3 and 15-6, and eventually led 21-10 with 3:08 left before halftime. The Green Knights led by as many as 13 points in the first half before Monmouth's Austin Holman canned a 3-pointer right before halftime to give St. Norbert a 32-22 lead at intermission.

Reinthaler led all scorers with 24 points and nine rebounds, while Bobinski added 13 points and eight rebounds. St. Norbert shot 33.3 percent (20-for-60) from the floor but made 21 of 26 free-throw attempts (80.8 percent). The Green Knights also held a 49-40 rebounding advantage.

Jon Calhoun led Monmouth with 14 points, while Ben Friday added 13 points. The Scots shot 35.1 percent (20-for-57) from the floor and were 15-for-25 (60 percent) at the free-throw line.
