DE PERE - St. Norbert College rallied from a six-point deficit with just over eight minutes remaining and held off Ripon College 59-57 in a Midwest Conference game at Schuldes Sports Center.

The Green Knights (3-1, 2-0) ran their winning streak against Midwest Conference opponents to 46 despite trailing 49-43 with 8:13 left to play. St. Norbert then got a defensive stop on the final possession to win a game that featured 16 lead changes and 11 ties.

Ripon (2-2, 1-1) took a 49-43 lead on Ty Sabin's 3-pointer. Things looked bleak for the Green Knight Five, but St. Norbert answered with a 12-0 run. Ben Bobinski canned a jumper and then made four consecutive free throws to tie the game at 49-49. D.J. DeValk's layup put the Green
Knights ahead 51-49 with 4:55 left. Bobinski then hit jumpers on consecutive possessions to give St. Norbert a 55-49 lead with 3:00 left.

The Red Hawks came again, getting 3-pointers by Sabin and Elliot Hoerdemann, the latter to knot the game for the last time at 55-55 with 2:03 left. Following a St. Norbert timeout, Mitchell Reinthaler hit a 3-pointer with the shot clock expiring for a 58-55 lead with 1:29 to go. Both teams traded misses until Ripon's Brendan McCoy hit a layup with 11 seconds left. Ripon immediately fouled Reinthaler, who made the front end of a 1-and-1 to put St. Norbert up 59-57. Ripon called a timeout with 7 seconds left to set up a play. The Red Hawks tried to find Sabin but couldn't find him open, and Koy Brecklin's 3-pointer from the top of the key as time expired was long.

In the first half, neither team could open up more than a four-point lead. The Red Hawks looked like they would go into halftime ahead, but Bobinski swished a 65-foot 3-pointer as time expired to send the Green Knights into halftime with a 29-27 lead. (YouTube video of shot here:

Neither team would take more than a three-point lead in the second half until Ripon opened up its six-point bulge, setting up the game's dramatic final minutes.

St. Norbert was led by DeValk's 20 points, while Bobinski added 16 points and Reinthaler 10. The Green Knights shot 37.7 percent (20-for-53) from the floor and outrebounded the Red Hawks 36-25.

Sabin led Ripon with 22 points, while Hoerdemann added 15 points - going a perfect 5-for-5 from beyond the three-point arc. Ripon shot 46.8 percent (22-for-47) from the floor and 11-for-22 (50.0 percent) from distance, but it wasn't enough to offset going 2-for-4 at the free-throw
line.
