Green Knights Shoot Down Monmouth

DE PERE - St. Norbert College shot a lusty 56.1 percent from the floor and rolled past Monmouth College 83-40 in a Midwest Conference game on Connie Tilley Court at Schuldes Sports Center.

The Green Knights (12-4, 11-0) connected on 32 of 57 field-goal attempts to roll to their 39th win in their last 40 games against Midwest Conference opponents.

St. Norbert roared out to an 11-0 lead to open the game. Regan Carmichael's steal and layup were the Green Knights' first points, followed by a pair of free throws by Jill Kleiman. Carmichael then canned a jumper and then had another steal and finish for an 8-0 lead. Stephanie Weigman's conventional three-point play gave the Green Knights an 11-0 edge just 2:49 into the game.

The Green Knights increased their lead to 20-2 before settling on a 24-7 edge after the first quarter.

Monmouth's Allison Todd connected on a 3-pointer on the first possession of the second quarter to cut the Scots' deficit to 24-10, but St. Norbert countered with an 11-0 run to take a 35-10 lead with 7:14 left in the period. Weigman had seven points during the run, including a conventional three-point play for the 25-point lead. St. Norbert, which shot 61.3 percent (19-for-31) in the first half, led 44-18 at halftime.

The Green Knights held a 26-7 scoring advantage in the third quarter, with their biggest lead coming at 46 points on three occasions.

Carmichael led St. Norbert with 18 points. Weigman added 14 points and Brianna Byrne 13 points. The Green Knights outrebounded Monmouth 35-20.

Joanna Chavoya had nine points to lead the Scots, who shot 36.6 percent (15-for-41) from the floor and had 24 turnovers.
