Power Play Lifts St. Norbert to Win Over St. Olaf

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - St. Norbert College scored three power-play goals en route to a 5-2 win over St. Olaf College in a non-conference game at the Northfield Ice Arena.

The Green Knights, ranked No. 1 in the NCAA Division III, are now 3-0 on the season and pushed their unbeaten streak to 32. St. Olaf fell to 1-1.

St. Olaf drew first blood with a Nick Stalock power-play goal at 10:30 of the first period. It didn't take long for the Green Knights to answer, with Matt Boyd scoring his first goal of the season just nine-second into a power play for a 1-1 game.

The Green Knights scored the first three goals of the second period to take a 4-1 lead. Nick Tabisz scored a power-play goal at 3:22 of the second, with Brandon Longley following with a power-play score at 5:36. Cory Patterson's second goal of the season came at 7:02 of the second for a 4-1 advantage. Andy Benson scored at 12:52 of the second to make it 4-2 after two periods.

Neither team could get much going in the third period, with Longley scoring an empty-netter with 12 seconds remaining for the final tally. Jason Nopper added two assists for the Green Knights.

St. Norbert was 3-for-6 on the power play and is now 7-for-20 (35 percent) on the season. The Oles were 1-for-6.

Blake Bashor made 16 saves in the game for St. Norbert, while Nick Krauss turned in 26 saves for St. Olaf.
