St. Norbert Rolls Past Lawrence

APPLETON - St. Norbert College posted 51 first-half points and cruised to an 81-49 win over Lawrence University in a Midwest Conference game at Alexander Gym.

The Green Knights (15-4, 14-0 MWC) won for the 42nd time in their last 43 games against MWC opposition. Lawrence remained winless at 0-19, 0-14.

St. Norbert jumped out to an 8-0 lead to start the game with a pair of field goals from Mallory Nickerson, a hoop by Brianna Byrne and a pair of free throws from Stephanie Weigman. The Vikings slowly worked their way back into the game, trailing 16-11 with 4:32 left in the first quarter. St. Norbert closed the first quarter on a 5-0 run to lead 25-13 at the end of the first quarter.

The Green Knights slowly pulled away in the second quarter, eventually taking a 35-15 lead on a Kyra VandenHeuvel fast-break layup midway through the period. Rachel Hagge hit a pair of 3-pointers late in the quarter, including one right before the buzzer, for a 51-21 lead at halftime.

St. Norbert never let its second-half lead dip below a 25-point margin.

Four Green Knights scored in double figures. Nickerson and Hagge both had 14 points, while Byrne added 13 points and Regan Carmichael 10 points. Nickerson had eight rebounds and Hagge six for St. Norbert, which outrebounded the Vikings 44-25.

St. Norbert shot 30-for-63 (47.6 percent) from the floor and was 16-for-26 (61.5 percent) at the free-throw line.

Lawrence shot 40.8 percent (20-for-49) from the floor. Elizabeth Arco led the Vikings with nine points.
