Green Knights Put Away Northland as Coghlin Nears Milestone

ASHLAND - St. Norbert College scored a pair of goals in each of the last two periods to post a 4-1 win over Northland College in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Bay Area Civic Center.

The Green Knights (17-2-1, 13-2 NCHA) moved to within one point of Adrian College - idle in the NCHA this weekend - for first place overall in the league standings. The victory was also the 499th career win for St. Norbert coach Tim Coghlin, who is now 499-130-50 in his 23 seasons as the Green Knights' helm.

St. Norbert had to play from behind as Northland scored the game's first goal on a marker by Nick Trefey at the 5:38 mark of the first period. That goal held up through the end of the first 20 minutes.

The Green Knights drew even when Brad Pung scored at 6:20 of the second period on his sixth goal of the season. St. Norbert pulled ahead for good when Sean Campbell scored for the third time this year with a shorthanded goal at the 15:25 mark of the second period.

St. Norbert scored a pair of insurance goals in the third period. Pijus Rulevicius scored for the 11th time this season with a goal at 4:47. Jake Larsen scored his third goal of the year with a score at 12:08.

Pung added an assist for a two-point game, while Noah Nelson registered two assists.

St. Norbert outshot Northland 37-23. T.J. Black made 22 saves for the Green Knights and A.J. Smith made 33 saves for the Lumberjacks.

Both teams were 0-for-2 on the power play.
