Scherer Claims MWC Title, SNC Places Third

GALESBURG, Ill. - Jenny Scherer claimed the 2008 Midwest Conference women's cross country individual championship and helped lead St. Norbert College to a third-place finish at the Midwest Conference Championship at Knox College.

The Green Knights finished in a tie for third with Grinnell College with 75 points. Monmouth College won the championship with 55 points, while Carroll University had 68 points to finish second.

Scherer handily won the 6-kilometer race with a time of 21 minutes 24 seconds. Monmouth's Mary Kate Beyer was second with a time of 22:04. Scherer claimed St. Norbert's third MWC individual women's cross country championship, joining Julie Deyo's titles in 2001 and 2002.

St. Norbert's Ashley Graybill placed third with a time of 23:14. The Green Knights' Kelsey Timm also picked up all-conference honors with a ninth-place finish in a time of 24:47.

Kim Keil was St. Norbert's fourth scorer with a 21st-place finish with a time of 24:47. Isabella Benassi rounded out the Green Knights' team scoring with a time of 26:09 to place 45th.

Melissa Menne was 83rd overall with a time of 28:03. Jeni Jobst placed 91st with a time of 28:23, while Hope Kovala was 99th with a time of 29:08.
