St. Norbert In First Place After First Day at MWC Indoor Championship

GALESBURG, Ill. - St. Norbert College holds a commanding 35-point lead after seven events on the first day of the Midwest Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship held at Knox College's T. Fleming Fieldhouse.

The Green Knights have a whopping 99 points to lead the field at the championship. Monmouth College is second with 64 points, while Cornell College is third with 39 points. St. Norbert is the defending conference champion.

Brittany Kozlowski set a new Midwest Conference record in the 1-mile run, posting a time of 5:01.32. Her time broke a nine-year-old league standard set by Carroll University's Erin Kelley at 5:02.29 in 2007.

Liz LeCaptain won the conference title in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet 4 1/2 inches. Samantha Morateck was second with a distance of 15-10 1/2.

Kristina Herman won the league championship in the shot put with a heave of 40-11 1/2. Katelyn Turner was third at 38-9 and Hannah Kruse fourth at 37-10 3/4.

Erin Artz had a pair of second-place finishes. Artz was second in the 1-mile run at 5:08.72 and in the 5,000-meter run at 17:50.83.

Nicole Vanderlin was second in the high jump on jumps with a top height of 5-2 1/4. Morateck was third in the event with the same height.

Taylor Domro was fourth in the 1-mile run with a time of 5:11.12.

The St. Norbert 4x200-meter relay was third. LeCaptain, Angel Hon, Sarah Duff and Erin Lang ran a time of 1:47.12. The 1,600-meter spring medley placed second. LeCaptain, Kaitlyn Hintz, Duff and Haley Joosten registered a time of 4:16.26.
