Green Knights Swept in Season-Opening Doubleheader

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - St. Norbert College registered just seven hits on the day as the Green Knights dropped a pair of games to open the season with losses of 4-0 and 6-1 to Grinnell College at the Lake Myrtle Complex.

St. Norbert managed two hits in the opener - a single by Sean Grant in the second inning and a double by Nathan Jack in the seventh inning.

Grinnell scored three runs in the sixth inning and added an insurance run in the seventh inning.

Graham Fisher earned the win for the Pioneers, striking out nine with no walks in 6 1/3 innings pitched. Jake McMahon allowed seven hits with one walk and seven strikeouts in the complete-game loss.

In the nightcap, Grinnell scored once in the first inning and added three more runs in the third inning to take a 4-0 lead. St. Norbert would score its only run in the fifth inning on a Hunter Larson sacrifice fly, but the Pioneers would put the game away with runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Jason Malkowski was 2-for-2 for the Green Knights, who had five total hits.

Sam Neville took the loss for St. Norbert, allowing nine hits with no walks and one strikeout in five innings. Andrew Mack got the win for Grinnell, allowing five hits with three walks and six strikeouts in six innings.
