St. Norbert Repeats as MWC Outdoor Champs; Claims Eighth Title Overall

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - St. Norbert College won its eighth overall Midwest Conference Outdoor Women's Track and Field Championship with an impressive showing at Cornell College's Ash Park.

The Green Knights rolled up an impressive 236 points to repeat as conference champions. Monmouth College was a distant second with 144 points, while Cornell was third with 131 points.

St. Norbert's Kyra VandenHeuvel was named the Outstanding Field Performer at the meet, while coach Don Augustine was named Coach of the Year.

VandenHeuvel, who won the long jump on Friday, was second in the triple jump with a distance of 35 feet 5 3/4 inches. She also finished seventh in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.97 seconds.

Erin Artz won the 5,000-meter run, Clarissa Jauregui won the 800-meter run, Samantha Morateck took the high jump, Graceanne Tarsa was the pole vault champion and Mallory Nickerson won the discus for St. Norbert's Day 2 champions.

Artz set a Midwest Conference record with her performance in the 5K, posting a St. Norbert-record time of 17:01.71. Lisa Baeten was fifth in the event with a time of 18:37.28.

Jauregui won the 800 with a time of 2:14.34, while Taylor Domro placed third with a time of 2:16.32.

Morateck won the high jump with a height of 5-3. Nicole Vanderlin was third at 5-1 and Emmy Larson was seventh at 4-9. Larson was also eighth in the triple jump with a distance of 33-7 1/4.

Tarsa took the honors in the pole vault with a height of 10-6. Meghan Vandenack was second with a height of 10 feet, while Grace Mickelson was fourth with a height of 9-6 1/4.

Nickerson won the discus with a heave of 139-2, almost 19 feet further than Savanna Smith's runner-up throw of 120-5. Kristina Herman was fourth with a distance of 119-5.

Haidyn Mueller set a school record in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.96 seconds. Teagan Wernicke was fifth at 16.05 seconds and Peyton McCauley was seventh at 16.67 seconds. McCauley was third in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:07.96, Mueller fourth at 1:10.31 and Wernicke fifth at 1:11.01.

Sarah Duff finished fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.87 seconds. Angel Hon placed sixth in the event with a time of 25.99 seconds. Hon was fourth in the 100-meter dash in 12.66 seconds and Liz LeCaptain was eighth in 13.14 seconds. Duff was fourth in the 400-meter dash in 59.40 seconds and Tarsa was eighth in 1:03.49.

Alyssa Price led St. Norbert's trio in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a fifth-place finish in 11:50.78. Charlotte Walsh was sixth in 11:54.79, while Sarah Parbs was seventh in 11:58.16.

The St. Norbert 4x100-meter relay of Duff, VandenHeuvel, Erin Lang and Hon finished third with a time of 49.77 seconds. The 4x400-meter relay of Kaitlyn Hintz, Tarsa, Duff and Danielle Harris was fourth with a time of 4:11.58.
