DE PERE - St. Norbert College's men's basketball team is ranked fifth in the NCAA Division III pre-season ranking by The Sporting News in its 2016-17 college basketball preview magazine.

The Green Knights return all five starters from a team who won a school-record 25 games last season and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time since 1984.

Junior guard D.J. DeValk is a pre-season honorable mention All-America selection by the magazine after averaging 16.3 points per game last season. Senior guard Ben Bobinski (11.9 ppg), senior guard Terrence Garner (10.2 ppg), junior forward Mitchell Reinthaler (10.3 ppg) and senior center Tim Marshall (6.8 ppg) round out last season's starting lineup.

St. Norbert is one of three Division III Central Region teams ranked in The Sporting News' Top 10. UW-Whitewater is ranked No. 3 and North Central is ranked No. 6. Amherst is ranked No. 1, Babson is No. 2 and Christopher Newport is No. 4 to round out the Top 5.

The Green Knights open the 2016-17 season on Nov. 15 at UW-Eau Claire.
