St. Norbert Blanks Illinois College to Win MWC Opener

DE PERE - St. Norbert College opened Midwest Conference action with a 3-0 shutout win over Illinois College at Schneider Stadium.

The Green Knights (6-2, 1-0 MWC) jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead and closed out the win over the Blueboys (1-4-2, 0-1).

St. Norbert took the lead when Ben Prange's angled shot was just inside the far post at the 16:13 mark. Tyler Kassube was credited with the assist. The Green Knights took a 2-0 lead at 42:21 when Griffin Hoerchner's pass along the goal line found the toe of Anthony Masello, who tapped it home for his first collegiate goal.

The Green Knights salted away the win when Kevin Marx headed in a long crossing pass from Joe Fabich at 79:25 for the game's final goal.

St. Norbert outshot Illinois College 14-8 and held a 9-2 edge in corner kicks. Josh Koleske got the win for the Green Knights, making five saves in 79 minutes. Sam Lisheron made two saves in relief. Ty Clearwater made seven stops for the Blueboys.
