Green Knights Face Northwestern in NCAA Tournament

DE PERE -- St. Norbert College will face the University of Northwestern in the first round of the NCAA Division III Central Regional Tournament.

The Green Knights (16-14) will face the Eagles (30-4) in a first-round match at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Ericksen Center on Northwestern's Roseville, Minn., campus.

St. Norbert is making its eighth NCAA Division III Tournament appearance and first since 2011. The Green Knights, champions of the Midwest Conference Tournament, are 2-7 all-time in the NCAA Tournament. St. Norbert advanced to the Sweet 16 in 1993 and the second round in 2002.

Northwestern, champions of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference regular season and tournament, is making its seventh NCAA Division III Tournament appearance overall and consecutively. The Eagles are 4-6 all-time in the NCAA Tournament. The Eagles advanced to the Sweet 16 last season.

Other first-round matchups in the Central Regional include UW-La Crosse against the University of St. Thomas, Gustavus Adolphus College against Wartburg College and California Lutheran University against Concordia University Wisconsin. Cal Lutheran is the defending national champion.

St. Norbert would face the UW-La Crosse-St. Thomas winner on Friday if it would beat Northwestern. The regional championship is scheduled for Saturday.
