ST. PAUL, Minn. - St. Norbert College lost a tough 2-1 double-overtime decision to Luther College in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament at the University of St. Thomas' South Field.
The Green Knights (16-4-1) saw their season end when Luther's Jon Gednalske finished a header off a pass from Matheus Beato just 25 seconds into the second overtime period.
St. Norbert saw itself trailing early when Beato scored on a shot off a loose ball in the penalty area just 8:14 into the game. That goal would hold up for a 1-0 Luther halftime lead.
The Green Knights would draw even at 48:30 when Tyler Kassube converted a penalty kick, his 12th goal of the season.
St. Norbert would outshoot Luther 2-1 in the first 10-minute overtime period but the Norse got the only shot off in the second overtime session.
Luther outshot St. Norbert 19-11 overall and had a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Josh Koleske made eight saves for the Green Knights, while Tolith Gidaga made three stops for the Norse.
