Hot Start Lifts Green Knights Past Knox

GALESBURG, Ill. - St. Norbert College scored the first nine points of the game and never relinquished the lead en route to a 66-42 win over Knox College in a Midwest Conference game at Memorial Gym.

The Green Knights (2-2, 1-0 MWC) drained three consecutive three-point field goals from Jill Kleiman, Jelena Ostojic and Regan Carmichael to take a 9-0 advantage just 2 minutes 13 seconds into the game. Knox (1-3, 0-1) would get to within three points three times in the first quarter before St. Norbert settled on a 24-19 lead after the first 10 minutes.

St. Norbert broke the game open in the second quarter by scoring the period's first 11 points. Brianna Byrne began the quarter with a 3-pointer, followed by a Carmichael jumper. Carmichael and Byrne then followed with consecutive 3-pointers for a 35-19 lead with 6:39 left in the period.

The Green Knights, who led 42-27 at halftime, got back-to-back triples from Carmichael and Byrne for a 51-29 lead with 6:50 left in the third quarter for a 22-point lead. St. Norbert would not lead by less than 20 points the rest of the game.

St. Norbert shot 39.7 percent (25-for-63) from the floor. Carmichael finished with 15 points, while Byrne finished with 13 points and eight rebounds. Mallory Nickerson had nine rebounds with seven points.

The Prairie Fire made just 15 of 58 field-goal attempts for 25.9 percent marksmanship. Jarrelyn McCall led Knox with 10 points.
