Big Second Half Lifts St. Norbert Past Monmouth

GREEN BAY - St. Norbert College used a dominant second half to break open a close game en route to a 72-48 win over Monmouth College in a Midwest Conference game at Kress Events Center.

The Green Knights (9-4, 6-2 MWC) led 35-32 at halftime but pulled away with a 20-12 scoring edge in the third quarter and a dominating 17-4 advantage in the fourth quarter to lock up the win.

St. Norbert found itself down six in the early going by an 8-2 score but then scored the next 11 points to take a 13-8 lead, with Brianna Byrne scoring four of the 11 points during the run. The Green Knights kept their lead at 16-14 after the first quarter.

Monmouth stayed in it in the second quarter, taking a 32-29 lead on a 3-pointer by Keri Dodson with 2:26 left. St. Norbert immediately countered with a conventional three-point play by Sarah Neumann 25 seconds later to knot the score at 32-32. Byrne canned a 3-pointer with 1 minute left in the half for a 35-32 halftime lead.

The Fighting Scots trailed 48-44 with 2:16 left in the third quarter before St. Norbert closed the period on a 7-0 run. Neumann had a pair of baskets during the run to give the Green Knights a 55-44 lead.

St. Norbert forced Monmouth into making just 1 of 17 field-goal attempts (5.9 percent) in the fourth quarter.

The Green Knights shot 49.0 percent (25-for-51) from the floor. Regan Carmichael had 17 points, while Byrne added 16 points and Neumann nine points.

Monmouth shot 36.2 percent (17-for-47) from the floor. Maddie Dohleman and Rebecca Gallis had 12 points apiece for the Fighting Scots.
