Third-Quarter Spurt Lifts St. Norbert Past Ripon

RIPON - St. Norbert College opened the third quarter on a 14-0 run to take control and claim a 62-39 win over Ripon College in a Midwest Conference game at Storzer Center.

The Green Knights (10-4, 7-2 MWC) held a 33-25 halftime lead before pulling away from the Red Hawks (8-6, 6-3) with a dominating third quarter.

St. Norbert gradually pulled away in the third quarter. Brianna Byrne connected on a pair of free throws at the 8:23 mark, followed by a Jelena Ostojic basket at 7:17. Ostojic then scored another hoop at 5:31 for a 39-25 lead.

Following a pair of free throws from Mallory Nickerson, Sarah Wiseman scored four straight points for a 45-25 lead with 3:04 left in the period. Sarah Ratajczyk's basket with 2:24 left in the quarter extended the Green Knights' lead to 47-25.

St. Norbert held a lead for most of the game, leading 17-14 after one period. The Green Knights led by six early in the second quarter before the Red Hawks tied the game at 20-20. St. Norbert finished the half on a 13-5 run, keyed by a pair of 3-pointers by Regan Carmichael and another triple from Jill Kleiman to lead 33-25 at halftime.

St. Norbert led by as many as 25 points in the fourth quarter.

The Green Knights shot 40.4 percent (19-for-47) from the floor and committed just 14 turnovers. Brianna Byrne led the Green Knights with 11 points, while Wiseman added 10 points. All five St. Norbert starters scored at least eight points.

Ripon shot 29.5 percent (13-for-44) from the floor. Maggie Oimoen led the Red Hawks with 12 points.
