ADRIAN, Mich. - St. Norbert College earned a hard-fought 3-1 win over Adrian College in the first game of a key two-game Northern Collegiate Hockey Association series at Arrington Ice Arena.

The Green Knights (13-2-1, 9-1-1 NCHA), ranked No. 1 in the USCHO.com and D3hockey.com polls, won for the first time in five tries at Arrington Ice Arena.

St. Norbert scored the game's first goal - also a first for the Green Knights in Adrian's rink - when Riley Christensen scored 5:41 into the game. Adrian (12-4-2, 11-2) answered shortly thereafter with a power-play goal by Dino Balsamo at 8:10.

The game remained knotted at 1-1 until near the midway point of the second period, when Roman Uchyn took a sharp pass from Pijus Rulevicius and scored what would be the game-winning goal at 8:00.

St. Norbert's defense, the top unit in Division III at 1.33 goals allowed per game entering the matchup, stiffened in the third period. The Bulldogs were able to get just six shots off in the period, and came up empty on a power-play chance with 8:55 left. Christensen then gave St. Norbert some breathing room when he scored for the second time with 4:18 remaining.

Adrian had 3:37 of extra-attacker time late but the Bulldogs were thwarted in their comeback attempt when they took a too many men on the ice penalty.

Noah Nelson assisted on both of Christensen's goals for a two-point game.

Adrian outshot St. Norbert 28-26, but Green Knights' goaltender T.J. Black was up to the task making 27 saves. Adrian's Kevin Entmaa made 23 stops.

St. Norbert was 0-for-7 on the power play, while Adrian was 1-for-4.
