Green Knights Surge Past Vikings to Win Ninth Straight

APPLETON - St. Norbert College won its ninth consecutive game with a 70-37 triumph over Lawrence University in a Midwest Conference game at Alexander Gym.

The Green Knights (12-4, 9-2 MWC) stayed within striking distance of MWC leader Cornell College, which improved to 11-0 in league play with a win over Grinnell College. St. Norbert meets the Rams at 3 p.m. Saturday at Kress Events Center at UW-Green Bay.

St. Norbert never trailed in cruising to its 24th consecutive win over the Vikings (2-14, 0-11). The Green Knights led 17-11 after the first quarter before outscoring Lawrence 26-8 in the second stanza.

The Green Knights went on an 18-2 run to open the second quarter rupturing a six-point lead into a 22-point advantage. St. Norbert scored on its first five possessions of the second quarter, started by baskets from Mallory Nickerson, Christine Olijnyk and Macie Zurfluh. Carley Frauenhoff canned a 3-pointer and Sarah Neumann capped the early spurt with a hoop at the 7:10 mark for a 28-12 edge.

St. Norbert led 43-19 at halftime and shot 49.2 percent (30-for-61) from the floor while holding a 44-25 rebounding advantage. Thirteen different Green Knights scored, led by Sarah Ratajczyk's 14 points. Regan Carmichael was the only other St. Norbert player to reach double figures with 10 points.

Lawrence shot 22.0 percent (11-for-50) from the floor. Natalie Kramer led the Vikings with 13 points.
