St. Norbert Splits With Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - St. Norbert College continued a strong start to open Midwest Conference play, splitting with three-time defending champion Lake Forest College. The Green Knights won the opener 5-3 before dropping a hard-fought 3-2 decision in the nightcap.

St. Norbert (5-9, 3-1 MWC) fell behind 2-0 in the opener when the Foresters' Riley Frisbie stroked a two-run home run in the third inning.

The Green Knights answered in the top of the fourth inning when Leigh Grall and Tia Danforth both singled, followed by Amanda Diedrich's three-run home run for a 3-2 lead. St. Norbert would add to its lead in the sixth inning when Danforth singled to set the stage for Diedrich's two-run home run and a 5-2 lead.

Lake Forest would score one run in the bottom of the seventh inning and have runners at second and third when the game ended.

Diedrich was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and all five RBIs. Danforth was 2-for-3 with two runs scored for the Green Knights, who had seven hits.

Sydney Pfotenhauer got the win, allowing three runs with no walks and three strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings pitched. Emma Molenhouse struck out the two hitters she faced to record the save.

In the nightcap, Lake Forest scored in the third inning for a 1-0 lead, but St. Norbert tied the game 1-1 when Danforth scored on an error.

The Foresters would score single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 3-1 lead. St. Norbert got a run back in the sixth when Danforth homered, but the Green Knights wouldn't mount a rally in the seventh inning.

Danforth was 3-for-3 with two runs scored as St. Norbert totaled seven hits.

Molenhouse took the loss, allowing six hits and three runs with no walks and four strikeouts in five innings pitched.
