DE PERE - St. Norbert College swept Grinnell College by scores of 3-2 in eight innings and 9-0 in a Midwest Conference doubleheader at Miron Construction Field at Mel Nicks Sports Complex to clinch the Midwest Conference championship.

The Green Knights (18-14, 15-3 MWC) were able to clinch the title outright, their sixth overall and first since 2012, when Illinois College dropped a game to Lake Forest College and Cornell College lost to Ripon College. St. Norbert will host the MWC Tournament as the No. 1 seeding on May 5-6 at Miron Construction Field.

St. Norbert survived a close game in the opener. Grinnell scored in the top of the first inning but the Green Knights promptly answered in the bottom half when Amanda Diedrich singled in Brianna Braeger to knot the score 1-1.

Tia Danforth's blooper behind the pitcher's circle resulted in three Grinnell players colliding, allowing Braeger to score the go-ahead run in the fifth inning. Grinnell retied the game at 2-2 in the top of the sixth inning when Andi Leff's two-out single tied the game.

St. Norbert would get the win when Carley Frauenhoff led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a triple. Following a groundout, Amy McBride's sacrifice fly to center field brought home Frauenhoff with the winning run.

Braeger, Diedrich and Frauenhoff were all 2-for-4 for the Green Knights, who had 11 hits.

Sydney Pfotenhauer picked up the win with 2/3 inning in relief of Emma Molenhouse. Molenhouse worked 7 1/3 innings, allowing three walks with three strikeouts.

In the nightcap, St. Norbert banged out 14 hits to rout the Pioneers.

St. Norbert scored twice in the second inning, with Diedrich scoring on an error and McBride's single scoring Frauenhoff. The Green Knights added a single run in the third inning on Lexy Campshure's double to score Leigh Grall.

The Green Knights pulled away with two runs in the fourth inning, with Maria Reiter leading off with a triple and scoring on McBride's double. Grall's single then brought around McBride.

St. Norbert iced the win with four runs in the sixth inning. Grall had an RBI groundout, while Diedrich poked a two-run double. Campshure then had a run-scoring single.

McBride was 3-for-3, while Campshure was 3-for-4. Reiter and Braeger were both 2-for-3, while Grall was 2-for-3.

Pfotenhauer earned a complete-game win, allowing five hits with no walks and one strikeout.
